Antica ed assai nobile famiglia maltese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, anche in diverse regioni d'Italia. Originariamente conosciuto come Xerri, il cognome del casato fu nel tempo italianizzato in Scerri. Secondo alcuni autori, inoltre, esso sarebbe di remota origine spagnola. In ogni modo, il primo personaggio di cui abbiamo nota è un Gregorio Xerri, dottor di legge, giudice ed assessore della Corte Capitaneale di Malta nel 1512. Fu suo figlio il dottor Francesco, giurato nel 1564 e nel 1569, il quale ottenne il titolo di Barone di Castel Cicciano. Dal suo matrimonio con Imperia Surdo nacque Gregorio Scerri, che ereditò il titolo paterno e che fu nobile giurato, tesoriere e Capitano della Verga (1584-1623). Ottennero parimenti onorevoli gradi: Niccolò e Cola Pietro, giurati, rispettivamente nel 1553 e nel 1554; dott. Orlando, giudice ed assessore della Corte Capitaneale di Malta nel 1581; Gio.
