Familia alemana antigua y noble, de virtud clara y ancestral, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. Según lo que se ha transmitido, esta familia es originaria de Moravia, donde sin embargo se la conocía como Schaffalitzky von Muckadell, que más tarde se convirtió en Schafflützel von Muckendell, en Dinamarca, donde tenía el título de Barones, y finalmente Schafflützel, en Alemania y Suiza. Según una genealogía del barón Carl Adolph Schaffalitzky von Muckadell, el progenitor de la familia es un Tverdise (c. 1120), Burgrave de Hadonin y Podivin.
