Die alte und sehr edle genuesische Familie, bekannt als Schittini, Schittino, Schettino oder Schiattino, ging zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts nach Sizilien und genauer gesagt in die Stadt Palermo, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedene Regionen Italiens ausbreitete. Laut maßgeblichen Ahnenforschern sollte der Ursprung dieser Erkenntnis in einer Modifikation der Verkleinerung der Apherese des Namens "Francesco" gesucht werden. Darüber hinaus hat es diese Familie in der Entfaltung ihres Glanzes immer geschafft, eine Reihe von Männern hervorzubringen, die ihren Namen in der öffentlichen Beschäftigung, in liberalen und kirchlichen Berufen und im Militärdienst berühmt gemacht haben.
