Trae le sue origini questa famiglia da Viù e conta fra i suoi membri, già in tempi antichi, notai, giudici e segretari comunali. A Giambattista (nato a Torino, 17 gennaio 1791, dec. a Torino il 25 dicembre 1864), figlio del causidico collegiato e notaio Domenico e di Lucia Cambiano di Ruffia, che fu senatore di Piemonte (1829), presidente di classe (1853), e collocato a riposo col grado di Presidente Capo (1860), venne concesso il titolo di conte il 14 gennaio 1843. Giambattista sposò in prime nozze (1815) Giuseppina, dell'avvocato Francesco Riccardi, e fu padre di Domenico, e in seconde nozze (1825) Felicita, dell'avvocato Luigi Scamuzzi, da cui nacque, fra gli altri Giuseppe. Domenico Schiari Riccardi (nato a Torino, 20 giugno 1817; deced. ivi 18 marzo 1877), che fu capo divisione al Ministero degli Affari Esteri, fu autorizzato ad aggiungere, con Regio Decreto 20 gennaio 1867, al proprio cognome
