Antica famiglia originaria dalla Calabria, detta Schippani o Schipani, godette nobiltà in Taverna e fu ascritta al primo Ordine civile della città di Monteleone. Fu ricevuta, per giustizia, nel S. M. O. di Malta nel 1795, in persona del cav. Vincenzo. Fu riconosciuta di antica nobiltà nelle prove di ammissione delle Regie Guardie del Corpo, nel 1856 ed ascritta al Registro dei cavalieri di Malta per giustizia. La famiglia Schippani alzò per arme: D'azzurro, al leone, accompagnato in capo da tre gigli, due in capo ed uno a sinistra; i due gigli in capo sormontati da un rastrello di tre denti, il tutto d'oro.
