Antica ed illustre famiglia, originaria del parmense. Gian Luigi Filippo Schmid, cavaliere di gran croce dell'Ordine Costantiniano, commendatore dell'Ordine di S. Lodovico, cavaliere del Regio Ordine dell'Aquila Rossa, d'origine tedesca passato a Parma coi secondi duchi di Borbone, fu creato da Carlo III di Borbone, col privilegio dell'8 maggio 1850, per diritto concesso dallo statuto dell'Ordine di S. Ludovico, nobile coi discendenti d'ambo i sessi. E' iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Italiano col titolo di nobile (mf.) in persona dei disc. da Luigi Filippo (1850). Lo stemma della famiglia Schmid si blasona: Inquartato: nel primo e quarto d'azzurro all'ape d'oro; nel secondo e terzo d'argento a tre sbarre d'azzurro; sul tutto di rosso, al giglio di argento.
