Originalmente da Lombardia, ela foi trazida para a Sicília por um Giovanni, para os serviços do rei Guilherme o Malo, e tendo defendido a vida desse soberano na famosa conspiração de Matteo Bonelli, o castelo Megerio com suas dependências o recompensou. Filho de Giovanni foi Goffredo, que fundou um mosteiro em Lentini, e cujo filho Giacomo foi loucamente exilado em 1194. Matteo foi conde de Adernò em 1303, conde e senhor de Sclafani em 1330, senhor de Centorbi, Ciminna e Chiuse, um barão muito poderoso da época e rival de Chiaramonte, morreu em 1354 depois de ter construído um magnífico palácio em Palermo, a igreja e o mosteiro de S.
