E' un ramo della famiglia Capece che prese il cognome per il fatto che un cavaliere Capece avendo tolto di sella in una giostra l'Imperatore Federico II, fu decapitato insieme a' suoi parenti ribellati, non essendo rimasta in vita che una sola donna incinta, il cui figliuolo chiamò Abscondito. Andrea tra i feudatari del regno al tempo di Carlo I d'Angiò; Pietro cameriere, maggiordomo e familiare della regina Giovanna I, portolano di Calabria e protomedico del regno. Hanno posseduto i feudi di Campora, Centola, Pontelandolfo e Ripa, la contea di Melito ed il titolo di duca sul cognome ed ànno vestito l'abito dell'Ordine di Malta nelle persone di Giulio-Cesare e di Giuseppe, il primo nel 1577, l'altro nel 1687. Di questa famiglia non si hanno più notizie dalla morte del duca Ottavio Capece Scondito.
