Nobile famiglia originaria della contea di Nizza, e propriamente della città di Sospello, come rilevasi da Sigismondo Alberti storia della città di Sospello e sue figlie nobili, e dal Villabianca Opuscoli. Fu portata in Sicilia nel XVI secolo Commendansi: Giovanni Imperiali Cottù barone del Nadore per l'acquisto dello stato e baronia di Nadore presso Sciacca col mero e misto impero, e col dritto e la potestà di fabbricare e popolare terra di vassallaggio; indi cominciò a fabbricare in Gaddini, feudo dello stesso di Nadore, la terra di Roccaforte che per le vicende de' tempi non giunse a popolarsi. Fu egli il primo marchese di Roccaforte investito 1750, avendolo commutato con quello di Jannò da lui acquistato; inoltre comprò i feudi nobili delli Sigiani nel territorio di Paceco, e nel 1762 dal duca di Cesarò la poderosa baronia del Godrano con vassallaggio, facendo così gloriosamente entrare per come scrive il Villabianca
