As primeiras informações e a genealogia ininterrupta e documentada da família datam de 1350, quando Francesco, pai de Bartolino, Giovanni e Daniello, morava em Placência; mas deve-se considerar que já estava entre os mais notáveis da cidade desde que os referidos Giovanni e Daniello, e especialmente o primeiro deles mencionado abaixo, famosos jurisconsultos em casa e no exterior, foram admitidos no Colégio de Juízes e Médicos da a própria cidade, que não era então concedida, exceto àqueles que pertenciam a uma família nobre e de Piacenza por pelo menos três gerações, que não haviam se exercitado e não exercido "artes mecânicas, de reprovação e vil", como foi dito na época. E isso é confirmado por reconhecimentos posteriores de nobres privilégios pelos imperadores Frederico III e Maximiliano I.
