Famiglia originaria da Domaso, sul lago di Como, e dalla quale le prime notizie si hanno con un Gherardino, di Gherardo, giudice in quel borgo nel 1220 e i cui discendenti, nel 1399, ottennero particolari esenzioni con lettera ducale di Gian Galeazzo Visconti. Si divise in più rami uno dei quali, passato a Roma, fu ascritto a quella nobiltà in persona di Giacomo, conservatore di Roma nel 1457. Un altro ramo si stabilì in Valtellina e fu decorato del titolo di conte del S.R.I. in persona di Martino, cancelliere della valle nel 1598. Il ramo tuttora fiorente (dal quale provenne quel Nicolò, architetto di Corte del Duca di Mantova, ingegnere e matematico, costruttore del palazzo della Favorita e di altre lodate opere in quella città), discende direttamente dal magnifico Giambattista (n. 1566, dec. 1667), podestà di Colico, regio ducale delegato e fondatore in Colico di un canonico di giuspatronato della
