Antico casato spagnolo, originario di Santiago, primieramente detto "Seda", propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni europee. Le prime vestigia, lasciate dallo stesso, le rinveniamo nel XIII secolo. Tra i cavalieri facenti parte del servizio personale e della guardia privata di re Teobaldo de Champagne, figlio Blanca de Navarra e nipote di Sancho el Fuerte, figuravano, infatti, un Antòn ed un Juàn S. Un ramo del casato, al dir di illustri genealogisti, passò nel Regno di Napoli, al seguito dei re aragonesi, ove a causa dei soliti fenomeni di pronunzia dialettale e/o di errori di tradizione manoscritta, iniziò a cognominarsi Sedia. Inoltre, la famiglia, verosimilmente, venne nuovamente fregiata del cavalierato, in persona di un Filippo, in seguito alla partecipazione dello stesso, sotto i vessilli aragonesi, alla guerra d'Otranto, del 1481, contro gli Ottomani.
