Familia que los historiadores boloñeses dicen que vino de Toscana a Bolonia, después de la batalla de Montaperti (1260). En la primera mitad del siglo XIV se menciona a un Domenico, padre de Giovanni llamado Zenane. El hijo de estos, Antonio, en 1407, se encuentra entre los dieciséis reformadores nobles, gonfalonier de justicia y embajador ante varios príncipes. Girolamo, hijo de Antonio y Caccianemici, doctor en medicina y filosofía, es adscrito en las filas de los senadores (1460) por Sante Bentivoglio, quien lo nombra su médico, y es celebrado y buscado por príncipes y cardenales. Nicolò Sanuti lo designa a su sucesor en el condado de Porretta, en el cual el Papa Sixto IV lo confirma en 1474. Fue enviado embajador a Paolo II, el Visconti y el Gonzaga.
