Familia alemana antigua y noble, de virtud clara y ancestral, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. Los primeros registros sobre esta casa se encuentran en el siglo XV, con un Hans, floreciendo en Rottenburg. Según lo que se ha transmitido, esta familia, como recompensa por los valiosos servicios prestados a Carlos IV, Sacro Emperador Romano, fue admitida en la "Briefadel" (literalmente, "carta de nobleza"), la llamada nueva nobleza como opuesto a "Uradel", un término acuñado solo en los tiempos modernos, en referencia a familias nobles cuyo linaje ancestral se remonta a antes de la Edad Media. Como se informa en los textos heráldicos europeos más importantes, la familia se divide en tres ramas principales. Uno está presente desde 1622 en Ingolstadt, desde donde un Hans fue a Nuremberg, dando lugar a la segunda rama. Una tercera rama está presente desde la antigüedad
