Un Gio. Battista fu per molti anni al servizio della nobile casa Civran di San Gio. Grisostomo, quale agente, ed amministrando col tempo le sostanze di detta casa, e negoziando in biade ed altri cereali, ma specialmente colla fortuna del giuoco, nel quale era espertissimo, accumulò molti denari. Esso avendo raggiunto il settuagesimo anno, e non potendo sperare più d'avere dei figli, adottò per proprio figlio un Tomaso Premuda, coll'obbligo che tutti i suoi discendenti unissero al cognome Semenzi quello di Premuda, e gli offerse il mezzo di esborsare i 100 mille ducati per gli urgenti bisogni della guerra contro il Turco, e con parte ballottata in Senato il 21 settembmre 1685 con voti favorevoli 188, contrari 24, non sinceri 11, la quale venne poscia proposta ed accettata nel Maggior Consiglio il 23 detto mese con voti favorevoli 631, contrari 193, non sinceri 24, venne il detto Tommaso già Premuda,
