Ramo della famiglia senese dei Piccolomini, detta Sena o Senna, si trasferì in Sardegna nella seconda metà del secolo XIV con un Cristoforo, figlio di Cristoforo prefetto delle milizie di Siena. Suo nipote Giovanni combattè per Martino il giovane nel 1409 nella battaglia di Santuri, e, in seguito, da AlfonsoV ottenne in ricompensa del proprio valore, le signorie di Lasconi e Parte Valenza; nel 1427 egli acquistò dai Santapau il feudo di Santuri. Nel 1436 ebbe Sanluri elevata in viscontado ed ottenne la baronia di Quartu. Suo fratello Antonio nel 1421 aveva acquistato da Boixadors i feudi Asuni e Nureci e nel 1426 dal fisco il feudo di Abbasanta. Dal 1421 i De Sena furono ammessi allo stamento militare e parteciparono a tutti gli altri parlamenti.
