Antico ed assai nobile casato di probabile origine Longobarda di parte con rami familiari propagati in diverse regioni del nord e centro Italia ove si trovano delle varianti cognominali quali Seragli, Seraglii ... Doveroso notare che non sempre la forma originaria del cognome si manteneva intatta nei secoli con la sua primitiva grafia. Spesso a causa di trascrizioni errate, di trasformazioni dialettali secondo le regioni ove la stirpe via via si portava, della scrittura incomprensibile degli scrivani etc., si avevano modificazioni della fonetica e della grafia. Ad ogni modo risultano ascritti alla nobiltà in Lombardia nella forma Seraglio, in Emilia Romagna nella forma Seragli o Seraglii.
