Di questa stirpe (il cui albero genealogico rimonta ad età anteriore al mille) il primo che nel secolo XIV fu ascritto alla cittadinanza veronese fu il Cav. Cortesia, di cognome Marassi, detto di Serego, dal paese di cui aveva il dominio. Questi sostenne onorevoli ambascerie, fu generale capitano delle truppe Scaligere, marito di Lucia della Scala. Ebbe in dote della Scaligera la terra della Cucca ed altri luoghi, e fu sepolto nella chiesa di S. Anastasia. Nel 1434 i Serego furono creati conti dall'Imperatore Sigismondo, e nel 1774 la contea di Serego fu loro confermata in feudo dalla Veneta Repubblica. Nel 1409 questa casa fu ascritta al Nobile Consiglio Veronese, ed in vari tempi esercitò le più distinte magistrature municipali. Diede vescovi, giudici di Collegio, cavalieri, ambasciatori, consiglieri imperiali ecc. Nel 1583 un ramo di questa famiglia, detta di Serego-Alighieri (perchè ereditò i beni dei pronipoti del sommo poeta),
