Sembra che questa famiglia sia originaria da Montalcino, da dove passò poi a Siena, venendo scritta, verso la metà del XIV secolo, al Monte del Popolo. Il primo risieduto nel Supremo Magistrato fu ser Giovanni, di ser Gardo, nell'anno 1463. Niccolò, di Giovanni, fu console di Mercanzie nel 1496, e dei Regolatori nel 1497. Suo fratello Filippo, dottissimo giureconsulto, fu abate di Strigonia di Ungheria, chierico di Camera del pontefice Alessandro Massimiliano; nominato vescovo di Corinto, morì durante una missione diplomatica in Germania. Achille, di Niccolò, era nel 1519 fra i Maestri del sale; suo fratello Filippo era nel 1517 protonotario apostolico, chierico di camera del papa Leone X, soprintendente del fisco pontificio e segretario dei Brevi. Siena lo impiegnò in ambascerie al pontefice. Niccolò, di Achille, nel 1530 fu tra i deputati sulla guerra; nel 1533 venne inviato al pontefice Clemente VII per invitarlo a passare da Siena
