Nobile famiglia di Ascoli Piceno. Anticamente si disse dei Pelliccioni. Suo capostipite fu un tale Ubertino de' Pelliccioni, cavaliere venuto in Italia al seguito dell'imper. Carlo Magno, che lo investì della terra, castello e titolo di conte di Monte Cucullo su i confini tra le Marche e l'Abruzzo, col diritto di battere moneta, giacchè se ne sono trovate d'argento e rame con lo stemma attualmente usato dalla famiglia di cui parliamo. Quando l'imper. Federico II distrusse la città di Aquila, gli abitanti si rifugiarono in quel di Ascoli, sotto la protezione del conte Giovanni Pelliccioni di Monte Cucullo, il quale in memoria di ciò eresse una chiesa dedicata a S. Giovanni Battista, chiesa che è tuttora di giuspatronato della famiglia. Da detto Giovanni ne vennero Nicolao e Roberto, da cui Lucio, da cui Francesco. Questi generò Ser Giovanni o Ser Janni, dal quale i discendenti trassero l'attuale cognome nel secolo
