Famiglia di origine Sassone che venne ascritta alla nobiltà romana con Senatus Consulto del 2 giugno 1768, in forza di rescritto, dal Pontefice Clemente XIII del 28 maggio stesso, ad istanza di Giovanni per sè, suoi figli e posteri. Giovanni e Tommaso Serpos, nobili sassoni, vennero armati cavalieri sul Santo Sepolcro il 20 febbraio 1761. Famiglia assai antica e nobile. Annovera questa illustre casata personaggi di elevate virtù. Tra gl'antichi Cavalieri che anticamente nella militar disciplina fiorirono. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi propri paterni, e de' maggiori. Tali sono i principii, che da sopracitati Autori si diedero a questa famiglia, ma per esser questo fatto assai
