Según Scipione Ammirato derivan de un ser Belcaro, di Benvenuto, o Bonaiuto "da Pogna", que fue prior en Florencia en 1325, cuyos descendientes se llamaron a sí mismos "da Pogna" y luego también "della Cella" es "da Marcialla". La familia tuvo 21 priores de libertad, de 1325 a 1517, y 6 confalonieros de justicia en Florencia de 1346 a 1431, y varios de sus representantes fueron recibidos por justicia en la SM Orden de Malta.
