Selon Scipione Ammirato, ils dérivent d'un ser Belcaro, di Benvenuto ou Bonaiuto "da Pogna", qui était prieur à Florence en 1325, dont les descendants se sont appelés "da Pogna" et puis aussi "della Cella" est "da Marcialla" . La famille eut 21 prieurs de liberté, de 1325 à 1517, et 6 gonfaloniers de justice à Florence de 1346 à 1431, et plusieurs de ses représentants furent reçus pour justice dans l'Ordre SM de Malte.
