Antica ed assai nobile famiglia originaria della toscana, ove era detta Serragli ed anche Serraglis, da Pogna o della Cella, da Marcialla ed anche Serraglio. Con un Serraglio, di Paolo, di Girolamo, inscritto nel Cittadinario fiorentino pel quartiere di S. Spirito, gonfalone Drago, nel 1642 coi fratelli Girolamo e Camillo e morto il 13 settembre 1684, questo ramo della famiglia si estinse; fioriscono con onore vari altri familiari propagati in Toscana ma anche in diverse regioni d'Italia. Uno dei vari rami familiari, originario da Palaia nel contado pisano, e di là trasferito a Firenze, cui si assegna per capostipite un Giovanni di Vanozzo, priore di Firenze nel 1391, pronipote del suddetto ser Belcaro da Pogna. Un discendente di cotesto Giovanni, Serraglio, di Francesco, morto nel 1579, aveva avuto due figli: a) Cesare, ammesso alla cittadinanza fiorentina nel 1633, autore di un ramo cui con rescritto 20 luglio 1860
