La famiglia è originaria da Pieve di Teco, ove occupò posizione eminente. Il nome si incontra e nella forma usata dal ramo iscritto alla nobiltà Sertorio e nell'altra forma Sartoro o Sartore, in antichissimi atti notarili. Così in atto 24 sett. 1222 di maestro Salmone, notaro del Sacro Palazzo, compare come arbitro un Delamede Sartorius, in atto 11 maggio 1224 dello stesso notaro è nominato Petrus Sartorius; Raimondo compra casa a Morigallo il 14 ag. 1224; Gaspare Sartorio di Pieve è capitano di 25 uomini per guardia di detto luogo. Lodovico Sartorio che il Della Cella dice però di Racconigi è cancelliere degli ambasciatori genovesi in Spagna nel 1490. Fra gli altri soggetti che onorarono la famiglia sono da ricordare: Giustiniano, colonnello a Milano (1361); Filippo, francescano (1384), in fama di santo; Pietro Antonio, vescovo di Palermo nel XVI secolo; il rev. Pietro Antonio (1580, deced. nel 1659), vicario generale
