La famiglia è originaria da Verese Ligure dove si trova già fiorente nel sec. XV. Vanta molti giurisperiti, religiosi, militari ed ebbe numerosi giuspatronati. Vincenzo (dec. 1612) fu Consigliere Imperiale, Pietro Antonio (n. 1507) fu canonico e cronista di Varese, Camillo (dec. 1624) dottore e governatore del feudo di Campagna per il Principe di Monaco, stabilì un ramo della famiglia a Modugno e fu padre di Giovanni Camillo (dec. 1686) e avo di Giuseppe Maria (dec. 1753), Antonio (n. 1653) e Pietro Aniello (n. 1650). A costoro con atti 8-17 giugno 1715 il Duca Francesco Farnese conferì il feudo di S. Rocco al Porto nell'Oltrepò piacentino con le ville di Campagna, Contessa, San Desazio e Riolo, trasmissibile a tutti i loro figli maschi, con titolo marchionale.
