Famiglia di nobiltà antichissima, riconosciuta con D.M. 20 aprile 1902, che vanta un giurisperito del Collegio di Milano del secolo XVI, in persona di Gabriele, figlio di Francesco Sessa. La nobiltà è attestata in modo sicuro dagli atti notarili, nei quali non solo si attribuiscono secondo i tempi le qualifiche di dominus, nobilis, spectabilis, magnificus dominus e don, ma si parla, anche, esplicitamente delle "nobiles parentelae de Sessa". Vi è, poi, un atto del 20 febb. 1430 relativo ad un compromesso di vertenze, intorno a ripartizioni di gravezze d'estimi, dal quale la nobiltà della famiglia appare in modo precipuo.
