Family from Fano but originally from Sassoferrato. Tradition has it that it descends from the famous jurisconsult "Bartolo da Sassoferrato" to whom the emperor Charles V, on 14 June 1355, granted the nobility and the following coat of arms: "Gold to the red rampant lion with forked tail". However, so far no reliable document has been found that proves this lineage. it seems that a branch headed by Giov. Battista IVD in 1500 settled in Portogruaro in Friuli, dying out in 1720. Certain progenitor of the Fano branch is a Barnabeo, who lived around 1500, whose perfect son died in 1562, leaving several children including Federico jurisconsult; Andrew, Captain; Sigismondo related to the counts of Genga; and Gian Battista jurisconsult. The latter settled in Fano in May 1580 and obtained its citizenship; from his wife Vittoria, of Giacomo Lucci, from Sassoferrato, he had Perfetto, who in about 1631, married Diana,
