Familia de Fano pero originaria de Sassoferrato. Cuenta la tradición que desciende del célebre jurisconsulto "Bartolo da Sassoferrato" a quien el emperador Carlos V, el 14 de junio de 1355, concedió la nobleza y el siguiente escudo: "Oro al león rojo rampante de cola bifurcada". Sin embargo, hasta el momento no se ha encontrado ningún documento fidedigno que acredite este linaje. parece que una rama encabezada por Giov. Battista IVD en 1500 se instaló en Portogruaro en Friuli, extinguiéndose en 1720. Cierto progenitor de la rama Fano es un Barnabeo, que vivió alrededor de 1500, cuyo hijo perfecto murió en 1562, dejando varios hijos entre ellos Federico jurisconsulto; Andrés, Capitán; Sigismondo relacionado con los condes de Genga; y el jurisconsulto Gian Battista.
