Famiglia assai antica e nobile, originaria della Toscana che, nel corso dei secoli, si propagò in diverse regioni d'Italia. Tra le più antiche ed illustri famiglie di Pescia, per le cariche civili, militari ed ecclesiastiche sostenute e per i nobili parentadi contratti; godettero il priorato ed il gonfalonierato, e vestirono l'abito di cavaliere nell'Ordine di S. Stefano. Francesco, di Antonio, nonostante morì a soli 32 anni, lasciò scritti di filosofia e di giurisprudenza, conosciuti e apprezzati anche all'estero; Pietro, fratello di Francesco, fu a capo della diocesi di Pescia dal 1847 al 1854. I diversi rami della famiglia furono ascritti alla nobiltà di Pescia con i decreti 9 settembre 1771 e 28 luglio 1794.
