Si crede sia originaria di Capua; godette nobiltà in Messina e in Palermo; passò all'ordine di Malta nelle persone di Giovan Filippo di Francesco Saccano Spadafora Saccano nel 1553 e di Ottavio di Francesco Lombardo Saccano Arena nel 1573. Un Francesco fu giudice della corte pretoriana di Palermo nel 1476-77; un Giacomo fu giudice della corte straticoziale di Messina nel 1515-16; un Vincenzo acquistò l'ufficio della Rantaria di Palermo; un Girolamo fu giudice della Gran Corte del Regno nel 1526; un Antonio fu senatore di Palermo nel 1581-82 e governatore della Tavola (Banca) di detta città nel 1584-85; un Francesco, con privilegio del 18 maggio 1723, ottenne il titolo di barone della Leggia; un Giovanni fu giudice della Corte Pretoriana di Palermo nel 1726-27, del tribunale del Concistoro nel 1733 e di quello della Gran Corte nel 1741; un Vincenzo, domenicano, fu vescovo di Lipari e arcivescovo di Damiata 1769;
