Antiga e mui nobre família do Reino das Duas Sicílias, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se propagou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. Esta ilustre família está inscrita no Livro de Ouro da Nobreza Italiana e na lista oficial dos Nobres Italianos, com os títulos de Marquês de Rende e Conde de Gigliano. Foi agregado à nobreza de Giovinazzo em 1758 e admitido na Guarda Real em 1832. Ilustrado pela dignidade eclesiástica e pela púrpura cardinalícia, foi condecorado com o título de Conde de Gigliano, posteriormente reconhecido com RD 15 de abril de 1929 e RR. LL. PP. 7 de novembro do mesmo ano. Ele ainda tinha, por recusa da casa Caracciolo di Torella, o título de marquês de Rende, título reconcedido, com RD em 12 de setembro de 1836, a Angelica Caracciolo, esposa do cav. João Siciliano; título que foi posteriormente reconhecido, por Decreto Ministerial
