Ancient Calabrian family, with residence in Reggio Calabria, of clear and ancestral virtue, who wanted it to be a collateral branch of the noble Sicilian family "Sigillo lo Re", which enjoyed nobility in Messina. The origin of this cognominization, in any case, should be sought in a variation, due to phenomena of dialectal phonetics and / or errors of handwritten tradition, of the medieval name "Sigillus", brought, with great probability, by a, today unknown , progenitor. The first Sigillo of which we have news is a Cav. Giuliano, a soldier under the banner of Charles I of Anjou, distinguished, by skill of arms, in the famous Battle of Benevento (1266).
