Di origine greca, le prime sue memorie risalgono al 1240 in cui un Filippo S. barone di Zuncoli era tra i baroni del regno che furono chiamati al parlamento generale in Foggia. Ha goduto nobiltà in Napoli al seggio di Capuana, ed à posseduto i feudi di Atina, Bolonzano, Brusciano, Casalvatico, Castelmercurio, Ciminola, Gallo, Grignano, Melito, Mondragone, Montuoro, Pescarola, Pettorano, Poggiogirardo, Santacroce, Soleto, Teverola e Zuncoli, e le contee di Caserta e di Telese.
