Originario de Módena, anteriormente se llamaba Ingrami. Michele, creado el Conde Palatino en 1453 por el emperador Segismundo, asumió, por concesión de este, el apellido Sigismondi que dejó a sus descendientes. Bonifazio podestà de Guiglia en 1463; Giovan-Galeazzo alcalde de Sassuolo en 1500; Sigismondo notaro y astrólogo en 1525. Varias familias homónimas se extendieron a diferentes regiones de Italia. La información bibliográfica que se nos transmite se remonta a este linaje del que hemos tomado nota. Familia antigua y noble originaria de la Toscana. La familia levantó sus armas. Plata, a una rueda de molino de oro, sostenida por una terraza verde, y coronada por un árbol del mismo; con la cabeza de Anjou.
