Last name from Portugal, descendant of a Praetor from Lusitania, named Silvio, who flourished in the empire of Nero. According to other authors, he descended from Alderedo, the Gothic Prince who, in the time of King Don Ramiro I, had the dignity of Count palatine, from whom Don Gutierre Alderete de S. descended, who lived in the 10th century, the first confirmed ancestor of this noble house , linked with the first Spanish artistocracy. Don Luis de Salazar y Castro, wrote the "History of the Casa de Silva". The Portuguese captain Diego de Silva Meneses, figured the forehead of the last expedition organized by Don Enrique the Navigator against the Canary Islands. After devastating Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, he went to Gran Canaria, taking possession of the Gando tower, the only position of the Castilians. It was the year 1459. Enrique the Navigator died in November 1460 and in the middle of the following year, Silva was ordered to immediately hand over the fortress. Diego de Herrera, who was awarded vassalage by the guanartemes, also managed to get the Portuguese hidalgo to come to Lanzarote on September 30, 1462, to pay homage to his furious in-laws. In Telde a "House of Prayer" was built, which really was a second fortress for the defense of the island. Knights of this surname proved their nobility numerous times in the Military Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlo III and San Juan de Jerusalem and in the Royal Chancery of Valladolid and Granada.
