The family was known in Reggio since the sec. XVI with an Agostino Silva, living in 1512. Gian Nicolò, in 1545, was Doctor Colegiatus, and Alfonso, notary in 1590. In 1631 Prospero was rector of the Orphanages. In November 1624 a Giambattista Silva lodged Cardinal Bentivoglio. Hippolytus, of Charles, of Augustine, priest. His nephew Carlo, di Agostino, di Carlo, living in 1664, very rich, was assassinated in his house on 2 November. 1696. This family had in the sec. XVII several friars and nuns, such as the brothers don Giovanni and don Alessandro, of Bernardino, of Nicolò, who entered the convent of S. Marco; their sister Silvia, a nun in S. Raffele, and their nephew Alfonso, who was Carmelite with the name of Don Giuliano, and became prior in 1647.
