Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, originaria della Bretagna, passata in Sicilia al tempo degli Angioini ed in Spagna nel XV secolo. Successivamente, i Sinestrari posero dimora in diverse regioni italiane, con una certa preminenza nel Lazio. Nei primi anni del Quattrocento un ramo di questo lignaggio fondò la sua casa solare, nel villaggio di Besalú, nel distretto giudiziario di Olot ed in provincia di Girona. Francisco fu Signore della Baronia di Monells e Ullstret. Un altro ramo di questa casata è venuto in Colombia, con un Francesco, che sposò donna Teresa Fernandez de Soto, la figlia di Pedro Fernandez de Soto e Miss Gertrude Rengifo, nipote di Juan Fernandez de Soto e Dona Felipa Herrrea e pronipote di Martin Fernandez de Soto e Margarita Sanchez Ellin.
