Una delle più illustre famiglie pisane. Si rese celebre Chinzica de' Sismondi, figlia di un gentiluomo di Colonia che si era stabilita in Pisa, la quale nel 1665 salvò la patria da un'incursione dei Sarceni di Sardegna. Dall'ora in poi la famiglia divenne una delle principali della Repubblica Pisana e diede molti illustri difensori alla patria, tra' quali son da notare un Ugolino ammiraglio de' Pisani che nel 1341 riportò alla Meloria una grande vittoria contro l'armata genovese, ed un Cinicello, altro ammiraglio, il quale cacciò i Genovesi dalle foci delll'Arno nel 1282, e prese Porto Venere.
