En Cataluña y Mallorca. Tiene mucha antigüedad, pues ya en el siglo XIV radicaba en la villa mallorquina de Porreras una familia solariega de este linaje que desempeñó los oficios municipales más distinguidos. De esa casa de Porreras procedió fray Pedro S., mercedario, gran teólogo y jurista y comendador del convento de San Lázaro, de Zaragoza. Se destacó y triunfó en la defensa de su instituto contra los que mantenían la doctrina de que el Papa no podía hacer las concesiones que había hecho a los mercedarios. Enseñó teología en el convento de Lyon, en Francia, escribió doctos libros y fue vicario general de Roma. Falleció en principios del siglo XVI. Una rama de esta familia se trasladó a Palma en mediados del siglo XVIII, quedando allí radicada. A esta rama perteneció don Jaime S., alcalde de segundo voto de aquella ciudad en 1848. En Barcelona, Gerona y otras localidades de Cataluña moraron antiguas ramas de S. que enlazaron con hidalgas familias.
