La tradizione vuole che Giuseppe Guido venisse di Francia al principio del secolo XV e che nel 1406 ponesse sua stabile dimora Urbino. Essendo egli di nobile famiglia, dovizioso e dotto fu ascritto subito a quella nobiltà, anzi poco dopo ottenne anche quella della città di Pergola. Con il tempo la famiglia quì definitivamente si trasportò. Sebastiano suo pronipote nel 1589 sposò Fulvia Brandi ultima di nobilissima famiglia urbinate, che ebbe quel Francesco che fu arcivescovo di Bordeaux in Francia, e quindi fatto cardinale dal papa Innocenzo VII, detta Fulvia era nepote e fu erede del detto cardinale il quale volle che i discendenti di Sebastiano Latoni e Fulvia Brandi si chiamassero d'allora in poi Brandi unendone anche lo stemma.
