La casa de este apellido tenía gran antigüedad y estaba sita en la villa de Montblanc, de la provincia de Tarragona. Son sus armas: En campo de oro, cuatro palos de azur. Así figuran en un sellos de Guillermo de S., que data del año 1301 y se conserva en el Archivo Municipal de Barcelona. J. R. Vila modifica ese blasón en la siguiente forma: Escudo cortado y contrapalado de doce piezas de azur y oro, seis de cada esmalte. Hay en España distintas casas Sobirats. Desde muy remotos siglos fué conocida y muy considerada. Los historiadores hacen notar acertadamente que no todos los linajes de este apellido tienen un origen común. Lo encontramos en Tarragona. Las armas más antiguas son las señaladas en: El solar catalan, valenciano y balear - Tomo cuarto A. y A. Garcia Carraffa Libreria internacional. Los de Tarragona traen: En campo de oro, cuatro palos de azur. Otros traen: En oro, seis palos de azur.
