Fra le più antiche ed illustri famiglie fiorentine, note nel XII secolo, è senza dubbio da annoverarsi la suddetta che ha dato alla signoria di Firenze non meno di 16 gonfalonieri di giustizia e 34 priori. Ad essa appartennero uomini insigni fra i quali ricorderemo Giovanna Soderini, delle Serve di Maria, vissuta nel trecento ed innalzata agli onori degli altari da Leone XII; Nicolò, di Lorenzetto (nato il 12 febbraio 1401, deced. nel 1474), due volte gonfaloniere di giustizia, che fu armato cavaliere e creato conte palatino dall'imper. Federico III, sulla metà del sec. XV; Tommaso, suo fratello (nato il 12 agosto 1403, deced. il 23 ottobre 1485), uomo per senno politico e rettitudine di giudizio, superiore ad ogni altro cittadino dell'età sua, il quale nel 1469, dopo la morte di Piero dei Medici, preconizzato principe della patria, questa dignità volle invece continuata in Lorenzo (che fu poi il Magnifico),

Di rosso a tre teschi di cervo d'argento posti di fronte, col capo di rosso carico della tiara e delle chiavi, abbassato sotto un altro capo di argento carico di una croce di rosso. Lo scudo posto sotto in manto di velluto rosso, soppannato di ermellino. Corona a fioroni e tocco rosso. Cimiero: Un giglio di rosso sbocciato. Sostegni: Due leoni al naturale affrontati.

Di rosso, a tre massacri di cervo d'argento, 2.1, accompagnati in cuore dallo scudetto rotondo dell'Impero.

Lo scudetto dell'Impero sembra concessione dell'imperatore Carlo V a Tommaso di Paolantonio Soderini; desta tuttavia qualche perplessità la presenza dell'aquila imperiale nello stemma di Bernardo di Niccolò Soderini, sul palazzo Pretorio di Pieve S.Stefano, dove ricoprì la carica di vicario nel 1495.
