Famiglia fra le più nobili e più antiche di Asti. Il ramo di Monasterolo si forma con G. Francesco e Alessandro, figli di G. Filippo, creati conti di Monasterolo dal Duca Carlo Emanuele I con Patenti 3 giugno 1606. Alessandro non lasciò discendenza; G. Francesco fu padre di Filippo, avo di Ferdinando Agostino, bisavolo di Armando. Da costui venne Enrico, che procreò Luigi, autore di due linee: la primogenita, rappresentata dalla discendenza di Costanzo; la secondogenita, rappresentata dalla discendenza di Angelo. Tra gl'antichi Cavalieri Gerosolimitani Longobardi, che anticamente nella militar disciplina fiorirono in Piemonte fù Giovanni ricevuto nel 1433, ciò lo scrive Andrea Poleti illustre autore e stampatore di Venezia nella sua opera L'Italia Nobile nelle sue città e nè suoi Cavalieri figli delle medeme, i quali d'Anno in Anno sono stati insigniti della Croce di San Giovanni e di San Stefano, opera di Ludovico Araldi dedicata " Alli Nobilissimi
