Nobilissima casata francese, originaria della Languedoc, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa con insediamenti cospicui in Italia. Di essa si narra in alcune delle più importanti opere araldiche, tra cui il monumentale "Armorial général" dell'araldista e genealogista olandese Johannes Rietstap, contenente le blasonature di più di 130,000 stemmi di famiglie europee. Importanti informazioni genealogiche sono anche riportate in un volume di memorie della Accademia di scienze e lettere di Montpellier, ossia "Mémoires de la Section des lettres" (1863). Questa nobile famiglia risulta divisa in due linee principali e pertanto riportiamo entrambe le blasonature. Un ramo ebbe in tempi assai remoti la concessione del titolo baronale. Un altro fu fregiato del titolo di marchese nel dicembre 1675. Tale concessione fu confermata nel mese di ottobre dell'anno 1718.
