Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, originaria dalla Catalogna, propagatasi fin dal XV secolo in diverse regioni d'Italia, ove i suoi membri, accolti nelle importanti cariche delle città ove ebbero dimora, furono cospicui ed acquisirono prestigio. Ne abbiamo un esempio nella seconda metà del 1500 a Padova con un Francesco cantore soprano della cappella della Basilica di Sant'Antonio. Tal famiglia ebbe il suo principio in Álava, nel tardo XII secolo, ed inoltre risulta essere una delle famiglie che hanno fondato Vitoria, nel luogo occupato da un villaggio chiamato Gazteiz. Nel XVII secolo la ritroviamo negli atti del governo del vicereame del Perù, ove un Sole era consulente e socio di Don Gaspar de Zúñiga, quinto conte di Monterrey. Inoltre, la presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Sole ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata.
