Una tradizione antichissima non confermata nè confortata da documenti storici fa risalire l'origine della famiglia a 727 anni prima di Roma. La più accreditata è quella ricoprdata dal Corpus Iscriptionum Italicarum del Fabretti, e nel primo tomo del Corpus Inscription Latinarum del Bormann, che affermano che alla caduta del Romano impero della dinastia non si ha traccia di storica importanza. Solo in qualche documento longobardo sono menzionati prelati folignati dal VII al IX che furono elevati alla dignità vescovile. Sorgeva l'antica famiglia sulle basi della collina rasentate la Via Flaminia. Il vescovo Felicianus destinò ad uso cimitero un Agellum di sua proprietà che desiderò essere anche la propria sepoltura. In seguito su tale tomba sorse una Basilicula che fu ricordata di mura e torri. I devoti pellegrini che vi si recano stabilendosi nei pressi costruirono case dando origine a quello che si nomò Castellum S. Feliciani. LA vicina Civitas Fulgini
