Famiglia di origine spagnola, passata in Germania e nei Paesi Bassi, e in ultimo in Lorena, ove si pose al servizio di quei duchi, che con Lettere Patenti del 25 aprile 1712 ne riconobbero la nobiltà. La Magistratura civica di San Miniato, con partito del 7 dicembre 1847, propose l'ascrizione al ceto nobile di quella città del barone Luigi Giuseppe Pontzen, o De Ponce, di Porto Reno, patrizio sabino. Tale proposta fu sanzionata dal granduca con rescritto del 19 febbraio 1848. Trà le più antiche, e illustri famiglie che dalla Francia, e dalla Spagna che fiorirono in tempo de Regi Francesi della Carolea, e delle case reali Spagnole, Aragona, Castiglia e altre, visse con splendore questa famiglia, d'onde ella poi sotto auspici militari, è governi passò in italia, e nelle varie regioni. Ne è nota l'origine della famiglia e questo induce a supposizioni che offrano la possibilità di promuovere ricerche
