Le Vicomte de Montravel, qui a bien voulu nous donner la description de ces armes, nous dit que cette maison posséda la seigneurie de Colaux. M. E. Nicod nous communique la note suivante: ancienne famille d'Annonay qui posséda le domaine des Colaux en la paroisse de Peaugres et en porta souvent le nom. Elle s'éteignit chez les Bothéon et chez les du Peloux. Charles, sieur de Colaux, était le frère cadet de Nicolas de Peloux, gouverneur du Haut Vivarais, pendant les guerres de religion. Il posseda le château de Bayard où l'on voit encore la colombe de la vieille maison de Colaux ou Colans. D'après cette note, il semblerait que cette famille n'est autre que celle de Colans dont nous avons donné l'article page 158. Leurs armes, du reste, ont assez d'analogie pour nous faire croire à la commune origine de ces deux maisons. La famille Colans est connue dès le XIIIème siècle, elle possédait le fief des Peschiers près Vernoux.
