Familia muy noble y antigua que Galluppi reclamará descender de la ilustre familia Este. En cualquier caso, la familia Sottile ha disfrutado de cierta nobleza en Messina y Palermo, desde el siglo XV. Entre las muchas figuras prominentes, a las que dio a luz, sin querer aumentar el valor de lo omitido, recordamos: Niccolò, de Palermo, doctor en derecho, que compró, en 1405, la tercera parte de la trampa de atún de San Nicolò, fue secretada por Palermo en 1409, obtuvo la investidura del feudo Alfano el 1 de septiembre de 1433 y de los feudos Molisena y Bombiscuro el 20 de octubre de 1433 y fue capitán de justicia en Palermo en el año 1455-56; Ottavio, quien fue pretor de esta ciudad en el año 1434-35-36; Escipión, quien fue senador en los años 1472-73, 1480-81; Rinaldo, quien fue juez de la corte pretoriana de Palermo en los años 1480-81,
